Patriotic Front (Zimbabwe)
The Patriotic Front in Zimbabwe was a coalition of two political parties: Zimbabwe African Peoples Union (ZAPU) and Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) which had worked together to fight for black majority rule in Rhodesia.
After a severe split between the two parties, the ruling ZANU took over ZAPU in 1988 and renamed itself Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) to indicate the new unity. At the time this was seen as a move towards a one-party state.
