Western Arctic

Western Arctic is an electoral district and senate division of the Canadian territory of the Northwest Territories. It is the only electoral district of the territory. It is represented in parliament by Ethel Blondin-Andrew. Its population is 37,360. (2001)

The district includes all of the Northwest Territories.

History

The electoral district was created in 1976 from Northwest Territories.

Senate division

The Senate division of Northwest Territories follows the same boundaries as those of Western Arctic. In a rare expansion of the Senate, the current boundaries of this division were redrawn on April 1, 1999 when the Northwest Territories was split into Nunavut, creating the Senate division of Nunavut.
