North Ice

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

North Ice was the name of a research station of the British North Greenland Expedition (1952 to 1954) on the inland ice of Greenland. The coordinates of the station were 78°04′ N 38°29′ W (http://kvaleberg.com/extensions/mapsources/index.php?params=78_04_N_38_29_W_), with an altitude of 2 345 Meters above sea level.

The station recorded the lowest temperature ever in Greenland with -65,9°C, on January 9, 1954.

The name of the station contrasts to the former British South Ice station in Antarctica.

Another research station on the inland ice of Greenland was Eismitte.
