Nordfjord
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
Nordfjord is a fjord and landscape in the county of Sogn og Fjordane in Norway. The landscape comprises the municipalities of Selje, Vågsøy, Bremanger, Eid, Gloppen, Hornindal, and Stryn.
The fjord is 106 km long and encompasses the rough coastline of Stadhavet as well as the Jostedal glacier, Europe's largest mainland glacier. It also includes Hornindalsvatnet, Europe's deepest lake at 514 meters. The West Cape is Norway's westernmost point, and the Brikstad glacier is particularly scenic. Stryn provides year-round downhill skiing, and there are numerous old fishing communities going back to pre-Viking times.
