Nick Clooney

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Nick Clooney (born January 13, 1934) is an American television news anchorman and politician from the state of Kentucky. He is the brother of singer Rosemary Clooney and the father of noted actor George Clooney.

Clooney was born in Maysville, Kentucky and worked in the Louisville, Kentucky area as a TV reporter, columnist, and author before deciding to run as a Democrat in the 2004 election for a seat in the House of Representatives representing Kentucky's 4th Congressional district. He challenged Republican Geoff Davis for the open seat (i.e., there was no incumbent in the race). Many observers, citing the star power and funding that Clooney's famous son would be able to draw, rated the race as highly competitive, and it quickly gained a high profile as one of few seriously contested House races. Clooney lost the election, gaining 44% of the vote to Davis' 54%. The conservative demographics of the northern Kentucky Fourth District have been cited as the main reason for Davis' win.

After his loss, he went back to writing a column for The Cincinnati Post three times a week that has a wide range of topics.
