New York Raiders

The New York Raiders were a hockey team based out of New York that played in the World Hockey Association. The team played two seasons in New York, 1972 and 1973. During the 1973 season, the changed it's nicknamed to the New York Golden Blades. Their home ice was Madison Square Garden. After the 1973 season, the team moved to New Jersey and become known as the New Jersey Knights. After New Jersey, the team moved again, this time to San Diego and became the San Diego Mariners.
The team was one of the original WHA franchises in 1972. It participated in the first WHA draft. The coach was Camille Henry and the very first draft pick - second overall - was Al Sims. Sims did not however play for the Raiders, he signed with the Boston Bruins instead.
