The New Mets Stadium is a planned
Major League Baseball stadium for the
New York Mets to be built in
Queens, New York as a replacement for
Shea Stadium. The creation of the plan for the stadium came after the veto of the plan for the construction of the
West Side Stadium and is part of the
New York City 2012 Olympic bid, though it will be built regardless of the choice of host city for said Olympic Games. The stadium project is estimated to cost $2.2 billion and is slated to be provided $180 million by
New York City and
New York State for conversion for use as an
Olympic Stadium if New York wins the
2012 Summer Olympics bid. While construction is in progress,
Mayor Bloomberg (a supporter of New Mets Stadium since the veto of the West Side Stadium) has said the Mets will play in
Yankee Stadium. Construction is hoped to be finished in time for the
2009 baseball season.
