Michael C. Kerr

Michael Crawford Kerr (March 15, 1827–August 19, 1876) was a prominent U.S. politician during the 1870s. He served in the United States House of Representatives as a Democrat from Indiana from 1865 to 1873 and from 1875 to his death. During the 44th congress the Democrats made big gains and won control of the house.This leading to an era of divided governemnt since the Republicans had been dominating politics for the past 2 decades. During the latter term, he was also Speaker of the House.
