Western World
Many lunchboxes, especially those for children, feature bright colors and designs such as popular cartoons. The contents of a lunchbox often consist of a vacuum bottle containing a drink and homemade sandwiches. Lunch box manufacturers never use the term "lunchbox" and often prefer "lunch kit". "Lunch box" is also a slang term to refer to someone who is mentaly "out to lunch".
The original "lunchpail" was an actual pail or bucket. Later, special buckets were manufactured specifically for food.
