Lufthansa Cargo is a cargo airline founded on November 30, 1994 as an independent logistics company within the Lufthansa group. Core business is the airport-to-airport transport. Lufthansa Cargo does not only offer space on its own freighters, but also has access to the freight capacities of more than 300 Lufthansa passenger aircraft. Additionally, all capacity of Thomas Cook, Sun Express and the Spanish airline Spanair are at the disposal of Lufthansa Cargo.

Since 2001, the business is split up in three selfdepending units: "Global Cargo Net", "Global Cargo Handling Services" and "Global Freighter Operations".
Services
The network covers 493 destinations on all 5 continents. Lufthansa Cargo is one of the leading freight airlines within the IATA ranking. In the year 2002, Lufthansa has flown 1.63 Million tons of freight and airmail. More than 5.000 employees do their best to ensure this performance.
To safeguard the leading position in the world market the company focuses on innovations. Thus, Lufthansa Cargo was the first airfreight enterprise that has reorganised all its products to meet time-definite requirements. The time-definite services are also available for special goods, such as perishables, animals, valuable goods or dangerous goods.
Lufthansa Cargo offers the possibility to make bookings via internet. The complete product range can be booked electronically with this, Lufthansa Cargo is once more in a leading position.
Within the strategic alliance WOW, Lufthansa Cargo, Singapore Airlines Cargo, SAS Cargo and Japan Airlines Cargo have built an innovative and integrated airfreight system. WOW is the first airfreight alliance world-wide. The harmonised products within the alliance ensure the leading market position of Lufthansa Cargo and its partners.
Fleet
The Lufthansa Cargo fleet consists of 17 McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft (at April 2005). The airline did operate 7 Boeing 747-200 aircraft, but these have been disposed of.
