Fornaldarsaga

(Redirected from Legendary sagas)
A Fornaldarsaga or Legendary saga deals with matter that took place in Scandinavia (and a few distant places) before the colonization of Iceland. They deal with heroes, such as Ragnar Lodbrok, Starkad and Hrólf Kraki. Most of the content is about battles with both people, giants, trolls and dragons.
Some of them are based on distant historic events (e.g. Hervarar saga and Völsunga saga), whereas others may be purely works of fiction. They were written down in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries.
