The Kootenai (also Kutenai or Ktunaxa) are one of three tribes of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Nation in Montana. There are also populations in Idaho and British Columbia. The Flathead Reservation is home to the Bitterroot Salish and Pend d'Oreilles tribes also.

The Kootenai language is a language isolate having no relation to the languages spoken by neighbouring first nations.
