Kramer vs. Kramer is a 1979 film which tells the story of a divorce and its impact on everyone involved, including the couple's young son. In the film, a man's wife leaves "to find herself"; the man adjusts to living alone and caring for his son; and then the woman returns and a battle over custody of the son ensues. It stars Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Jane Alexander, Justin Henry, Howard Duff, George Coe and JoBeth Williams.
The movie was adapted by Robert Benton from the novel by Avery Corman, and directed by Benton.
Awards
It won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Dustin Hoffman), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Meryl Streep), Best Director, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium. It was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Justin Henry), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Jane Alexander), Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing.
