Jamie Gangel

Jamie Gangel was named National Correspondent of NBC News' "Today," in February 1992. Since joining NBC News in 1983 as a general-assignment and political correspondent based in Washington, DC, Gangel has been a frequent contributor to "NBC Nightly News," "Today" and "Sunday Today."
Gangel began her career in journalism in 1978 as an assignment editor for WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C. At the same time, she worked for all-news radio station WTOP, the CBS affiliate in the nation's capital. In 1982, she joined television station WPLG-TV in Miami as a general assignment reporter and substitute anchor.
Gangel was born and raised in New York City. She was graduated with a B.S. degree from Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service in 1977. In 1976, she also attended Harvard University where she studied international economics.
Gangel won the 1981 Associated Press Award for Best Spot News Coverage for her story on the closing of the Washington Star. In 1982, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her investigative report on a political pollster
