James Newton Howard (born June 9, 1951) is an American film composer. He is famous for his collaborations with director M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and The Village) and is currently Disney's composer of choice after scoring Dinosaur, Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet.

He also composed the music for the films The Interpreter, Falling Down and the theme song for the popular television series ER.

His most current movie score for Shyamalan's "The Village" was nominated for an Academy Award, although it lost the Oscar to Jan A. P. Kaczmarek (and his "Finding Neverland").
