International Mother Language Day
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
February 21 was proclaimed the International Mother Language Day by the UNESCO in 2000.
The International Mother Language Day is observed yearly in UNESCO member states and at its headquarters to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
This is mostly the international recognition of Language Martyrs' Day, which is commemorated in Bangladesh since 1952, when many Bengali-speaking people were massacred by the Pakistani police and Army in Dhaka.
