Intercalated disc

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

The intercalated disc is an undulating double membrane separating adjacent cells in cardiac muscle fibers. When observing tissue through a microscope, this is an identifying feature of cardiac muscle. It holds the myofibrils together and permits easy transfer of excitation (depolarisation).
