Dotless I

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

(Redirected from I-dot)

The dotless I is a letter from the Turkish variant of the Latin alphabet, used to write the Turkish, Azerbaijani, Crimean Tatar and Tatar languages. These alphabets contain two distinct I letters, one dotted, and one dotless.

ı I is the letter which describes the standard i sound. The minuscule does not have a dot, unlike the minuscule for I in the standard Latin alphabet.

i İ describes the variant I used in Turkish. The majuscule is dotted in all cases.

Example: İstanbul (starts with an i sound, not an ı).
