Hot 100 Singles Sales

The Hot 100 Singles Sales Chart is one of three component charts, along with the Hot 100 Airplay Chart & Hot Digital Songs that determine the chart positions of singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
Like the UK charts were for over 50 years (before the week ending April 17 2005), this chart monitors the sales of commercial singles in stores. As CD sales became less popular, paid digital downloads had to be incorporated into the main chart to reflect a better spread of popularity.
