- In baseball, a hold is awarded to a relief pitcher if he enters in a save situation, records at least one out, and leaves the game without having reliquished that lead
- In aviation, a hold is a predetermined manoeuvre that keeps an aircraft within a specified airspace while it awaits further clearance
- In climbing a hold is a place to secure a point of contact, such as a ledge or crack
- On the fictional planet of Pern in the McCaffreys' Dragonriders of Pern series, a hold is one of two major forms of human habitation, generally resembling a fortified manor
