Gargantua (Half-Life)

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Gargantua, as seen in Half-Life.

The Gargantua is a fictional creature from the 1998 computer game Half-Life by Valve Software.

The creature is approximately 4m tall, mostly blue in color, and has one red, glowing eye. In place of hands, it sports two appendages that can emit intense energy with enormous destructive power. Another form of attack it possesses is the ability to send a wave of energy rippling through the ground after stomping on a surface. The Garguantua moves fast and is very strong: it can hurl massive obstacles from its path with ease.

While many inhabitants of Xen have a third vestigial arm, such as the Vortigaunt, the Gargantua has a third and fourth vestigial appendage on its body. The player encounters Gargantuas while in Xen, but it is unclear whether it is a native species or if its presence is due to the Nihilanth.

The Garguantua is a kind of sub-boss creature and takes a large amount of explosive damage or energy damage from the Gluon gun or Gauss gun before being destroyed. Gargantuas can be seen in Half-Life in the chapters Power Up, Surface Tension, Interloper and Nihilanth. In most of these locations, there is a convenient way to destroy the Gargantua so that the player does not have to expend scarce ammunition on it.
