Game Boy Micro (GBM) is a micro sized Game Boy Advance set for release by Nintendo in the fall of 2005. It was officially unveiled at Nintendo's 2005 E3 press conference on May 17 and was quoted by Reginald Fils-Aime as being for "the image conscious consumer."

Micro retains the functionality of the Game Boy Advance SP, but has an updated form factor. Much smaller than previous Game Boy systems, the GBM is slightly bigger than, and about two thirds the weight of an iPod mini. Additionally, it features a two-inch (1.08 cm) backlit screen with the ability to adjust the brightness so as to adapt to lighting.

The Micro also comes with a removable face plate that allows gamers to purchase replacements of varying colors and designs.

  • Dimensions are 4 inches (10.16 cm) wide, 2 inches (1.08 cm) tall, 0.7 inches (1.78 cm) thick.
  • Weight: 2.8 ounces. (~85 grams)
  • Processor: Same as GBA SP.
  • Varied colors and designs through a removable and customizable face plate. Some Examples (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/e3_2005/micro/color_1.html)
  • Screen: 2 inches (1.08 cm) (vs. 2.9"/3.37 cm GBA), backlit, with adjustable brightness controls for use indoors or outdoors. Quoted as being the best screen in a Nintendo handheld thus far.
  • Battery: built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
  • Headphones: supports standard headphones without additional accessories.
  • Software: The official word from Nintendo is that the Game Boy Micro plays all games that a Game Boy Advance SP can. However, it was never specifically stated by Nintendo one way or another whether Game Boy Micro plays Game Boy Advance Video titles, original Game Boy games, and Game Boy Color games. Due to the cartridge slot being on the bottom, the Game Boy Micro (like the GBA SP) reverses controls on some early GBA tilt-sensor games such as Koro Koro Puzzle Happy Panechu. Note that WarioWare Twisted!, however, works properly with both top-loading and bottom-loading systems.

Release

Lately, Nintendo of Spain confirmed that the Game Boy Micro will be released in November, and "they also expect to bring at least some units of the Play-Yan media-player for the GameBoy Advance to Europe". Source (http://gba.n64europe.com/index.php?id=3731)
