Funen County in Danmark

Fyns Amt (English: Funen County) is a county in south-central Denmark, located on the islands of Funen, Ærø, Langeland, Tåsinge, and about 90 other islands, of which only 25 is inhabited. The county was formed on April 1, 1970, comprising the former counties of Odense and Svendborg.

The county has about 20.000 employees spread out over 160 institutions located all over Funen.

Coat of arms

Funen county coat of arms is three hop leaves that are connected. It represents the three former counties Odense, Svendborg and Assens. The choice of hop leaves comes from Hans Christian Andersen's song "I Danmark er jeg født" where he reference to Funen as "Æblegård og humlehave" (Apple farm and hop garden).

In daily matters a more modern and IT-friendly version is used, which consists of three white hop leaves on a green background (also seen on red and occasionally on black background), where the leaves are much less detailed.

The coat of arms was registered in 1976.
