Friedrich Merz

Friedrich Merz (* 11th November 1955 in Brilon) is a German politican (CDU).

School and Job
After finishing Abitur in 1975 and serving in the army he began to study jurisprudence (1976) in Bonn. After finishing this in 1985 he became a judge in Saarbruecken. Since 1986 he is approved to be an advocate. Till 1989 he also was engaged in the alliance of chemical industry.
Family
Friedrich Merz is married with the judge Charlotte Merz. He has three children and lives in Arnsberg-Niedereimer in Sauerland.
Party
Merz is a member of the CDU and in the time of 1998 till 2000 he was a member of the federal management. From 2002 upt to 2004 he was an insider of the chairship of CDU Germany.
Representative
From 1989 till 1994 he was Member of the European Parliament and since 1994 he is Member of the Bundestag. In October 1998 he became vice-chairman and in February 2000 Chairman of the CDU/CSU-parliamentary party. After the general election in 2002 Angela Merkel called for his office an so he was again vice-chairman till 2004.
