Frequency factor (chemistry)

In chemical kinetics, the frequency factor or A factor or pre-exponential factor is a constant in the Arrhenius equation indicating how many collisions between reactants have the correct orientation to lead to products.

In the Arrhenius equation

• k is the rate constant for the reaction
• A is the frequency factor
• E is the activation energy
• R is the gas constant
• T is the temperature
