The French Renaissance is commonly held to have begun in the 16th century during the reign of Francis I, although it had been well-established prior to the beginning of his reign.
Notable developments include the beginning of the Ancien Régime in France, the spread of humanism, and the importing and development of new techniques in the fields of architecture, the arts and the sciences.
