Flight Information Region
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
A Flight Information Region (FIR) is an airspace with specific dimensions, in which an information service and an alert service are provided.
Any portion of the atmosphere belongs to some specific FIR which is serviced by a designated authority. The division among authorities is done through ICAO.
In some cases there may exist a vertical division of the FIR, in which case the lower portion remains named as such, whereas the airspace above is named Upper Information Region, or UIR.
