Flavoured milk

Flavoured milk is milk that has sugar, colourings and (mostly inexpensive artificial) flavourings added to make it more appetising, especially to children. It can be sold as a powder added to plain milk, such as Nesquik or bought pre-mixed alongside other milk products. Some flavoured milk products are designed as dietary supplements, such as Horlicks, Nestlé Milo and Ovaltine. Many others are nothing but sweetened milk.
It comes in a variety of flavours, such as apple, banana, caramel, chocolate, cookies 'n cream, lime, malt, mango, papaya, strawberry, tropical fruits and vanilla with a few more exotic flavours available.
Milk Flavoured Milk
During the early 1990's the sale of milk in New Zealand was restricted to dairies and supermarkets. However there were no restrictions on the sale of flavoured milk which could be sold anywhere. One store, Woolworths in Whangarei decided they could get around the restrictions by adverstising "Milk Flavoured Milk". The appropriate authorities were not amused and quickly stopped them. However when the story appeared in the media it caused so much mirth and mockery that the restrictions became untenable and were soon rescinded
