Faust is a character in the Guilty Gear fighting game series, making his first appearance in the first game, Guilty Gear: The Missing Link, as Dr. Baldhead, and then as Faust from Guilty Gear X and afterwards. Faust stands 9'3" and weighs 120 pounds; these stats are, of course, impossible in real life. He is extremely tall and lanky, giving him a bizarre physical appearance, and allows him to tower over every other character in the game (although he rarely does, due to his extremely low fighting stance). He is the oddball character of the series, and uses a giant scalpel as a weapon, in addition to complete and utter randomness; some have compared his fighting style to Bugs Bunny's normal behavior.

Gameplay

Faust employs a huge amount of confusion tactics and random attacks, things such as appearing from the ceiling, and from behind or in front of an opponent. His weapon and height give him an advantage in range. He also has a few attacks, in the form of bombs, that are capable of harming him as well. A good Faust player can beat the opponent with Faust's strong overhead game and confusing moves.

Story

Background

Baldhead was once renowned as a medical genius. People would come far and wide to be cured by him. But one day, a young girl he was operating on died. This drove Baldhead mad, and he became a serial killer, employing his knowledge of human anatomy against his victims.

Guilty Gear: The Missing Link

Baldhead was released from prison to participate in the tournament Testament hosts. In his ending, he is visited by the voice of the young girl whose death drove him to insanity. She assures him that her passing was not his fault, and that he shouldn't blame himself. He then runs off into the night. It goes on to say that the serial killer known as Baldhead was never seen again.

Guilty Gear X: By Your Side

In Guilty Gear X, Baldhead is reintroduced as Faust, who is wandering about, trying to atone for his killings by resuming his duties as a doctor, and helping as many people as he can. In one ending, he meets with Dizzy and convinces her to leave the forest that she's living in, attempting to prevent further attacks on her. In the other ending, he cures Zato of his ailment, and leaves Venom to care for him, taking the parasite on as a result. Due to the events that take place in later games, this ending is impossible.

Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival

Faust runs in to I-No early on, and decides to pursue her, believing that she will cause people harm. As a medical man, he feels the responsibility to prevent this. In one ending, he tracks her down, and she confronts him on his dark past, accusing him of still enjoying bloodshed. After rendering her unconscious, he vows to continue in his duty as a doctor. In another ending, he meets Zappa and learns of his disease. Upon examining the body, he decides that he does not know how to cure this ailment. In the remaining ending, he fights with Venom and learns that the assassin's guild had something to do with the death of the girl who drove him insane in the first place. He and Venom are then assaulted by a large horde of Robo-Kys.

Music References

Faust may be named after Bard "Faust" Eithun formerly of Black Metal band Emperor, or "Faust", a German thrash metal band. His attack Going My Way is a Lenny Kravitz reference.

Trivia

Faust is named and loosely modeled after the German legend of the Dark Doctor Faust.
