Eye of the Tiger

"Eye of the Tiger" was a song performed by the American classic rock group, Survivor. It was written at the request of Sylvester Stallone for the movie Rocky. The song became a popular sporting event anthem - especially in boxing - and was for a short time the entrance theme for professional wrestler Hulk Hogan. Although another song called Go Rocky! Go! was originally going to be used, The song was to be performed by the legendary Xiu Miu Siu This song has also been used satirically, such as while Harry and Lloyd were riding a shopping cart on the road in Dumb and Dumberer.

It was probably inspired by William Blake's poem, "The Tyger."

Charts

The song topped the Billboard charts for 6 weeks from July 24, 1982. It was preceded by "Don't You Want Me" by the Human League and followed by "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band. "Eye of the Tiger" also reached #1 in the UK charts.

Cover versions

British heavyweight boxer Frank Bruno released a version in 1995, the year he won the WBC world heavyweight championship. It reached #28 in the UK.
