Ernest K. Gann

Ernest K. Gann was an author, sailor, fisherman and airline captain. His major works include the novel The High and the Mighty and the autobiographies Fate is the Hunter and A Hostage to Fortune.

Captain Gann flew for American Airlines and later, when a portion of American and other U.S. airlines were absorbed into the military airlift system during WWII, flew DC-3's, DC-4's and the cargo version of the B-24 across the North Atlantic, across Africa and on to points as far away as India.

He was living in Friday Harbor, Washington when he died. He was survived by his widow, the former Dodie Post.
