Edward Guilford

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Sir Edward Guilford (alternative spelling Guildford) (born about 1474 Offington, Sussex, England; d. 1534) was Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports.

Edward was the son of Richard Guilford and Anne De Pympe.

  • Richard was the son of John Guilford and Alice Waller.
    • Other children of Richard Guilford and Anne De Pympe were:
      • Philippa Guilford (born about 1480 Of Oxford, Eng.)
      • Maria Guilford (born in 1487 Oxford, Eng.)
      • Elizabeth Guilford (born about 1490 Guildford, Surrey, England)
      • Fredeswith Guilford (born about 1480 Oxford, Eng.)

Edward Guilford married Eleanor West, and was the father of Jane Guilford who married John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland. By not having a son as heir, Edward caused considerable strife with the family legacy when Jane inherited Haldon Manor rather than his nephew, John Guildford, Member_of_Parliament for Gatton, who was (arguably) instead intended to inherit with no nearer male heir.
