East Franconian Kingdom
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
The East Franconian Kingdom was one of three successor kingdoms to the empire of Charlemagne, comprising most of the empire's territories east of the Rhine river and subsequently evolving into the German Empire. The western part of the empire became the West Franconian Kingdom which evolved into present-day France. The central portion, whose first rulers also inherited the title of Emperor, extended from Flanders through Burgundy to northern Italy, but existed as an independent kingdom for only a relatively brief period, before being largely absorbed by its two neighbors.
