DWG

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

DWG (pronounced drawing) is the default extension used by Autodesk for its AutoCAD drawing files in MS-DOS and Windows. Since 1982, along with its ASCII variant, DXF, the DWG format has become the de facto standard file format for CAD applications.

Since the file format is proprietary to Autodesk, in 1998 an effort was launched to create an open standard alternative, OpenDWG.
