Como is a city in Lombardy, Italy, 45 km north of Milan; the capital of the province of Como, it borders Lake Como.

1. The cathedral, built between XIV and XVIII centuries, which is connected to the ancient town hall of the city, the "broletto",

2. The romantic church of S. Abbondio, with beautiful paintings dating to the XI century.

3. Casa del Fascio, designed by Giuseppe Terragni. Possibly Terragni's most famous work, it stands as an early "landmark of modern European architecture".

Economy

The economy of Como was traditional based on industry (world-famous silk manufacturers): in recent years tourism has started to increase as an important sector: many VIPs have settled on the shores of the Lake of Como (for example Madonna, George Clooney, Versace, Sylvester Stallone) granting an international fame to the city.
