Systems theory is an interdisciplinary field with origins in engineering, physics and applied mathematics but has been extended into many areas of natural sciences and humanities such as biology, economics and psychology. Formed in the 1950s it is a precursor the newer field of complex systems which developed in the 1980s and later. See the related Category:Complex systems.
