Persona: A term Carl Jung used to describe social roles and social rules people learn to guide their behavior. Examples of social roles are the sex roles of masculine and feminine and work roles. Examples of work roles are doctor, fireman and landscape gardner. Social rules are behaviors that are socially taught such as don't talk in a movie theatre. Ideally the ego is not fused with the persona. A person knows when they are playing a role and willfully works to perfom it to his/her advantage.
