Every work of fiction creates its own alternate reality of course, but these articles and subcategories reflect those which are very popular and/or have grown extensively over time. Many involve multiple works in different artforms (novels, movies, television series, comic books or graphic novels, etc.).

Many (but not all) of these are science fiction or fantasy.
