Case Anton

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Case (or operation) 'Anton' was the code-name for the Nazi-German occupation of Vichy France during World War II. Anton was invoked at Hitler's order after the allied landings in French Morocco (Operation Torch) in November 1942. The French Army in Vichy France made no move to resist the occupation forces, but the French Navy — which had a large element of their fleet demobilised at the vast navy base of Toulon — scuttled their ships before German forces could seize them.
