Bureau of Diplomatic Security

The Bureau of Diplomatic Security is the agency responsible for the safe conduct of foreign policy. Diplomatic Security Agents protect United States Government personnel, facilities and information. DS Agents are responsible for the security of U.S. missions and embassies overseas, to include operational control of the United States Marine Corps Security Guard Detachments stationed abroad. DS Agents protect the Secretary of State and foreign dignataries and others as appropriate, as well as conduct criminal investigations into international document fraud, espionage, terrorism and other violations of United States Code.
