Plot
Swamy plays the rebel son of a Hindu family in a seaside village. He is studying journalism in Bombay and returns to his village.
He falls in love with Shaila Bano (Koirala), a Muslim schoolgirl. He asks his hand but their fathers oppose their marriage. Swamy leaves for Bombay but continues writing letters to Shaila. Finally, Shaila escapes the village to marry him in Bombay. They have twins Kabir and Kemal and raise them in both religions. Meanwhile, in India, religious extremism launches each community against the other. In 1992, Hindus demolish the Babri mosque in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) where they claim there was a pre-Mughal Hindu temple. Muslims retaliate across India. While Swamy interviews the political and policial leaders, the riots arrive to their neighborhood. Extremists try to burn the children but are stopped by Swamy and the police. Alarmed by the Bombay news, their parents leave the village. After meeting their grandsons, however they forgive the couple and make peace with each other.
