Bob Sweikert

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Robert Charles 'Bob' Sweikert (born 20 May 1926, Los Angeles, CA, died 17 June 1956) was an American racing driver, best known as the winner of the 1955 Indianapolis 500 and 1955 National Championship. He died in 1956 after crashing a Sprint car at Salem, Indiana.

As the Indianapolis 500 counted as a round of the Formula One World championship from 1950 to 1960, his career is credited with participation in 5 grands prix, with 1 win, 1 podium and 9 championship points scored. (Note that drivers who won the Indy 500 only are often not listed in totals of Grand Prix winners, as the race's inclusion in the World Championship was largely symbolic, with very few F1 drivers taking part).
