Biocrawler:Requested pictures

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

This page is a forum for requesting images from other Biocrawlerns for Biocrawler articles.

Contents

Using this page

Use this page to post requests for images that you would like to be used on a Biocrawler article. Others can then upload the image{s). For comments on policies, other users, technology, and other miscellaneous concerns that are not directly related to posting images, use the Biocrawler:Village Pump.

Copyright Warning

Biocrawler can accept only photographs and pictures that are licensed compatibly with the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) or are in the public domain. A complete guideline of what is acceptable can be found at Biocrawler:Image use policy.

  • The simplest way to ensure that is to make them ourselves and explicitly release them under the GFDL by adding {{GFDL}} to the image description page
  • It is also possible to put your own pictures in the public domain by adding {{PD-release}} to the image page
  • Other copyright options and tags can be found at Biocrawler:Image copyright tags.
  • If you're asking someone else for permission to use their image under the GFDL license, see Request for Permission

Posting a request

Before posting, please do the following steps:

  • First try to find an image on your own. For tips, see the Biocrawler:Finding images tutorial
  • Avoid blanket requests, as, for example "need pictures for all people in the Lists of people".
  • Request images only for existing articles, i.e. if there is no article, then please write an article first before requesting.
  • Add the request here if you could not find a picture. Select an appropriate subcategory or add a proper category or subcategory in the alphabetical list.
  • Link to the article for which you would like to have the picture added, and describe what kind of picture you need. Signing the request is optional.
  • Add only one picture request per bullet.

You may also wish to add the image request template, {{reqimage}} to the article's page, which would then list the article in Category:Biocrawler requested images.

If you need someone to take this photo for you, maybe one of them can do it in meta:Press_Corps by location. You might also ask an appropriate photographer or graphic artist. Many are willing to take requests.

Fulfilling a request

If you want to contribute an image you have taken yourself, either on film or with a digital camera, please make sure it looks optimal. Consider using graphics software such as the GIMP to enhance saturation, contrast, and sharpness (sample tutorial (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Haven/5179/)). You do not need to provide a thumbnail image. Please see Biocrawler:Image use policy for more advice on working with images. You can also contribute pictures not taken by you if they are available under a public domain or GFDL license. Other requested images can also be found by viewing Category:Biocrawler requested images, a page with Template:Reqimage, or by viewing Image:No_image_yet, and add images to articles that link to these pages.

  1. Ensure that the picture is properly licensed as shown in the "Copyright Warning" above
  2. Upload the Image
  3. Add the proper Image copyright tags and a description to the image description page
  4. Link the image to the corresponding article. Images larger than should be linked as thumbnails. For a good tutorial see Biocrawler:Picture tutorial
  5. After you add the requested image, remove the request from this page, and the {{Reqimage}} tag from the article.
  6. You can also add your contribution to Biocrawler:Fulfilled picture requests or list it at Biocrawler:List of images.

If the license so permits, please upload the image to Wikimedia Commons[1] (http://commons.wikimedia.org) instead so that all the different Biocrawlers can use the image.

  • Étrécissements
  • Emeryville Mudflat art: Need pictures of the Emeryville Mudflat art (no longer existent). These will be old - 1960, 70, 80, early 90's. (This request is intentionally duplicated below in Place in North America.)
  • Mural by Diego Rivera for the Mexican Revolution article (There is a specific one with soldiers of the revolution in mind)
  • Children's art for the Child art page. Especially: controlled sribbles, (circles, crosses or star shapes by a 2-3 year old, Tadpole figures by 3 or 4 year old(Heads without bodies, arms emerging from the head.) and a really nice detailed realistic drawing by a 10 or eleven year old. Also child art from other cultures. Zeimusu | (Talk page) 02:55, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Astronomy

  • Jewel Box - NGC 4755
  • The article about the astronomer Annie Jump Cannon is fairly well developed, but it could do with a portrait/picture of her. Thanks. — RJH 04:25, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

Other Animals

Plants

  • Genipa, a plant genus from Central and South America, with an edible fruit (Genipa americana). There seems no photo on the internet that satisfies the Biocrawler copyright restrictions. JoJan 15:20, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Culture

  • Silver Ring Thing: I need a photo of one of the Silver Rings that are integral to this youth movement. There are photos out there on the 'net that I could go grab, but that would be a copyvio. If anyone knows a Silver Ring Thing kid who would be willing to have a photo taken of their ring, I'd greatly appreciate it. Kevyn 23:04, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Tea stall - Any enterprising Indian Biocrawlern with a digital camera out there? Preferably with benches, the shopkeeper pouring milk/tea from a vessel held as far above as possible from another vessel held in the other hand like this (http://www.india-picture.com/people2/images/coolmilk1.jpg) and people reading newspapers (if the photographic details are proper, this would easily become a featured picture, sigh! I don't have a digital camera and I don't know photography). -- Paddu 21:07, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • ndebele art. I'd like a photo of a woman painting her house in those amazing geometric designs. We don't have an article on this yet, so a photo could be used as a starting point, also it would be nice to use it to illustrate a traditional woman's role in the woman article. Everyday objects

  • rayon Some super-close-up photos or maybe even diagrams showing the weave and texture would be great.
  • bridle and picture of a saddle for Horse tack
  • Cartifact could use a picture of an ash tray with a map on it. (Not exactly every day but how hard can it be?).
  • Galvanization is all around us. Nails and pipes are okay, but a large object may be more instructie. A close-up picture of an item with "garbage-can spangle" (that is, visibly large (http://www.ussteel.com/corp/sheet/images/hotapcon5.jpg) grains) would be visually interesting, and also quite useful in such articles as crystallite and twin boundary.

Food and Beverage

Beverages

  • Beer. Sorry for the long request, but as part of Biocrawler:WikiProject Beer would like to have a nicer picture for our main page, Beer. I am looking for a picture for five different styles of beer in a bar setting, say, a glass of Stout, Bitter, Lager, Hefeweizen, and Helles. Ideally, each glass would be the appropriate one for the beer style. No brand names or logos, so we can put it on Commons. All pictures on Biocrawler seem to only feature one beer. Think of this as a reason to go out and order yourself five beers!! --Sean κ. 19:35, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • Somebody needs to put more images of NES clones on the Famiclones article. Also, they need to make more articles about these individual NES clones. I played NES as a little kid and I still remember the classic value it had. Also, I want more NES clones to me made in the world. --TheSamurai 02:41, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Geology

  • There are many mineral pages that would benefit from a picture of the mineral
  • Clay a microphotograph of clay, or better different types of clay.61.114.204.59 05:16, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Geography

For blank maps see Biocrawler:Blank maps. Public domain maps can also be generated at the DEMIS Map Server (http://www2.demis.nl/mapserver/mapper.asp)

  • Some more examples on Biocrawler:Producing_maps_with_xplanet perhaps?
  • I have some old PD images of tidal bores but if anyone has been to Petticodiac recently or the River Severn or even the Amazon and has a better photograph.
  • If anyone could add a map to the Dhahran article that would be great. I couldn't find any accurate maps for that topic.
  • Not exactly sure what would be best for this, but Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere could use some kind of map or illustration. Maybe just several images of the continents in each hemisphere would suffice.
  • A map of the city of Chicago, Illinois showing geographical features, neighborhoods, main streets, etc. Oddly enough, the article doesn't have one.

History

  • Trail of Tears. The most famous related image is "Trail of Tears", painted by Robert Lindneux in 1942 and found all over the Internet, such as: [2] (http://www.tngenweb.org/tnfirst/traltear.htm). The artist died in 1970 ([3] (http://www.wildlifeart.org/Collections/ArtistBio.cfm?tArtistid=334&tUrl=ArtistBioMain.cfm&UrlName=Artist%20Biographies)); I don't know if we can use this image, but it would be nice. Another iconic image often associated with the Trail of Tears is the 1915 statue "The End of the Trail" by James Fraser. [4] (http://www.onlinediscountmart.com/end-of-the-trail.html) That would be another nice addition to the article, if a public domain image is available. --Kevin Myers 17:21, Feb 17, 2005 (UTC)
Actually a map should probably be first priority. I'll be looking for a free one.--Pharos 17:30, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Also useful would be a map of the other Native American forced migrations, for the article Indian Removal. --Kevin Myers 03:21, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)

Flags & Heraldry

  • Conch Republic: Coat of arms of the Conch Republic. On website only in outline, untricked and -hatched. Who knows the tinctures or blazon?
    • I would blazon it "On a roundel, sable, a compass rose of twelve, or voided azure, environed of twelve mullets, argent; over all, a conch shell, proper. The motto 'THE CONCH REPUBLIC' above, and 'We seceded where others failed' below" -- but it has been decades since I wore the herald's baldric. ➥the Epopt 17:28, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

      • erm the article is about _casualties_ of war. That usually means dead persons. If you actually look at the article there is an image of a dead iraqi soldier right at the top of the article. stib 14:53, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
      • Some people (in Iraq or elswhere) might take offence/find revolting a picture of a dead Iraquian soldier. Ericd 20:20, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Operation August Storm has been provided with some pictures depicting the Soviet soldiers, and, as it was a Soviet operation, this might be a good idea. However, perhaps at least just one picture showing the Japanese perspective of the invasion might be in order? - Gavin 03:33, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Cantor's diagonal argument -replacing the box with an image would be nice
    • I prefer it as it is now. I suppose a wiki table could be used.Zeimusu | (Talk page) 03:10, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

Still think we need images? - dcljr (talk) 13:16, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Single Transferable Vote - We'd do really well with some good pictures of actual STV ballots to show what voting is like.
