This page is intended for listing and discussing images that are used under a non-free license or are missing important copyright or licensing information.

Contents

How to list

  • 1 - see if the image can be listed at Biocrawler:Images for deletion (if it's unneeded) or at Biocrawler:Copyright problems (if its source is known and it cannot be used by Biocrawler under any license or under the fair use doctrine).
  • 2 - place one of the tags listed below on the image page
  • 3 -contact the user who uploaded the image on their talk page with {{subst:idw-pui|IMAGENAME}}. For large numbers of images, merely copy a list of images on to their talk page.
  • 4 - place the image under today's section in Phase I.
  • 5 - after 15 days of Phase I, if the issues has not been cleared up, move to Phase II and add {{unverifiedimage}} to the caption on articles the image is on.
  • 6 - after 15 days on Phase II, if the issues have not been cleared up, the image is deleted, and removed from all articles.

General notes

  1. Images are listed here for a total of at least 30 days before they are deleted.
  2. Images can be removed immediately if they are public domain or licensed under an indisputably free license (GFDL, CC-BY-SA, etc.—see Biocrawler:Image copyright tags for more on these).
  3. Images which are claimed fair use must have two people agree to this.
  4. If you see in the contribution history that the editor hasn't visited in a while, it might help to also use the "E-mail this user" link rather than relying only on the talk page. There may also be contact information on the editor's user page.
  5. As always, assume good faith when making contact.

Image tags

Add one of these templates:

  • {{PUI}} (if information on the image's copyright status is missing)

This file has been listed on Biocrawler:Possibly unfree images, because it is missing information on its source or copyright status.
Please see that page for discussion. If you don't want the file deleted, please add the missing information to this page and note it there. Please do not remove this notice while the question is being considered.

  • {{PUIdisputed}} (if the copyright information is disputed)

This file has been listed on Biocrawler:Possibly unfree images because the information on its source or copyright status is disputed.
Please see that page for discussion. If you don't want the file deleted, please provide explanatory information about the copyright status of this image. Please do not remove this notice while the question is being considered.

  • {{nonfreedelete}} (if the image is only available under a non-free license) to the description page

This file has been listed on Biocrawler:Possibly unfree images, because it is currently only available to Biocrawler under a non-free license.
Please see that page for discussion. If you don't want the file deleted, please relicense the file (if you are the copyright holder) or show that it is available under another license and then note that there. Please do not remove this notice while the question is being considered.

Once the image is tagged, create a new listing in today's section in Phase I.

Source provided. Engraving is taken from the book Antiquity Unveiled written by Jonathan M. Roberts and published in 1892. The engraving and the oil painting from which the engraving was derived are more than a hundred years old.

  • Image:Kaikoura 8089 300px.jpg Uploader was previously notified by User:Dramatic in Nov 2004. choster 21:00, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
    • User was not informed of impending deletion, moreover Dramatic's comment was factually incorrect (when licensing under gfdl you explicitly retain copyright). This image is copyright to the uploader. If I assume that the uploader good faith, this makes the image gfdl. Tagged with the presumed tag Zeimusu | (Talk page) 12:49, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Image:Nirvana-bio tile.jpg. Uploader claims this is an image from [5] (http://www.nirvanaweb.com/) and that anybody can use the image for any purpose. I can't find the image there, the web site owner claims "©1998-2005 Andreas Schoepf" and may not own the image anyway. Thuresson 20:23, 21 May 2005 (UTC)

Phase I

New images should be listed in this section, under today's date.

Phase I - In contact with uploader

  • Image:KeatsTree1.jpg
  • Image:KeatsTree2.jpg
  • Image:WentworthPlace.jpg
    • The nature and copyright notice, make me believe these 2 were uploaded by the copyright holder, or with the copyright holder's permission. I think we can presume gfdl, though I have emailled the copyright holder to check.Zeimusu | (Talk page) 13:55, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
      • I am going to make one last attempt to contact the user, then proceed with Phase 2 on these. I am very uncomfortable with the concept of GFDL-presumed, as it I want to be clear cut, and this is kind of fuzzy, as I have no idea whether or not the uploader is Ted Kowalsky. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 15:03, May 28, 2005 (UTC)
        • After a web search I've found a reference to a Ted Kowalsky, and an Email address. As I said, I've written to this address to ask for information. A fairly through web search doesn't find these images. I these situations I believe that, either the uploader holds copyright, or they are an associate of the copyright holder. Assuming good faith leads to a reasonable belief that the image is gfdl, and need not be deleted. (you may take that as an Object for now) Zeimusu | (Talk page) 12:04, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Peter,
I have just written a stub about BUGA UP at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Utilising_Graffitists_Against_Unhealthy_Promotions

I've tagged this as PD-ineligible.. the letter A is clearly common property. The font appears not to be an issue either. Eliot 21:54, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
