Biocrawler:Cleanup

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

The cleanup page is a place where articles with problems (sub-stubs, articles that are ungrammatical or poorly formatted, etc.) can be listed. Any user can fix or list articles here.

March 2005 | Feb 2005 | Jan 2005 | Dec 2004 | Nov 2004 | Oct 2004 | Sep 2004 | Leftovers | Instructions

Please note: The archive pages above exist only to make this page easier to read and faster to load. Articles on those pages may still need to be cleaned up.

Please read Biocrawler:Cleanup process for some instructions on using this page.

If you are here because you have found a page that needs attention, please:

  1. Check the resources for collaboration box on the right to make sure there is not a more appropriate page on which to list the article. See Cleanup resources.
  2. Try to keep comments brief.
  3. Sign your name, date and time by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ )
  4. Also remember that you can submit an article in need of cleanup to the Cleanup Taskforce (which is always looking for members).

  • Bill Sizemore: Article on notable Oregon conservative politician/activist submitted by anon editor from AOL IP -- who has removed Cleanup & Wikify tags once. I'd do it, but due to my own political opinions (see my user page), the result is likely to be less NPOV. -- llywrch 19:42, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Mike Francesa article on notable New York City radio personality needs to be cleaned up badly. The same user also did an artle on the Sports Guys that also had to be cleaned up badly. ErikNY 13:23, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Trustbuster: Biocrawler is not a dictionary. 69.156.158.237 02:33, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • War of the Romantics: Poorly formatted, doesn't introduce the elements of the actual debate until several paragraphs into the article, confusing, not lucid, jumbled. Acegikmo1 21:58, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Rllmuk: An ill-constructed article on a real but apparently barely notable internet forum. 880 google hits. Article needs dramatic cleanup or otherwise it is a candidate for deletion. Fire Star 14:56, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • Second all of the above, with heavy bias toward deletion. Biocrawler is not a directory of every webforum on earth. eritain 21:16, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Schönefeld International Airport: The meaning of the comments in the second paragraph of the History section are unclear. What did being outside the (east) Berlin city boundary have to do with where aircraft could land? The English grammar also needs tidying up. Kennethmac2000 17:50, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Imperial blues: Reads discursively and feels POV. May be on the verge of non-notable or vanity, but there might be something salvageable. Cutler 18:46, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)
  • Lean Thinking - Not an encyclopedia article, badly formatted. - Mike Rosoft 12:05, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • Very worthwhile topic but already better done at lean manufacturing - merge and redirect. Cutler 15:22, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)
  • Monofibre - I was under an impression that it was a hoax, but it seems that it isn't. (The first time I used Google to look for Monofibre "hair extension", I got no results; now I found over 500 unique hits, and over 300 more Monofibre "hair extensions".) Still, a substub. - Mike Rosoft 12:38, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Jiří Voskovec (George Voskovec) - rather badly written; I did some cleanup (removing untrue information etc.). Needs more work; article on Jan Werich (and cs:Jan Werich, and cs:Osvobozené divadlo) may serve as a source. - Mike Rosoft 21:28, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Some of the canton pages leading off from the French version Côtes-d'Armor have the infobox overlaying the map.
  • Felisa Rincon de Gautier- style (e.g. we use last names not first), cop-ed, de-hagiograph-ify, e.g. notable not for having beliefs but for (having &) acting on the intentions that reflect the beliefs. Jerzyˇt
  • DNA- oversized article (30K, 11 main hdgs & 19 subordinate ones) should have most main sections reduced to summaries with no subordinate hdgs but links to "Main articles". Also check its What-links-here for redirects, since there is no such thing as e.g. the "redirect to section of DNA contemplated by the following subordinated item. Jerzyˇt
    • Watson-Crick_structure should be merged with the Watson and Crick Model section of DNA, and should redirect there. Kinger414 17:08, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC) - consider reverting to pre-merge content or renaming as main article corresponding "history of DNA research" section of DNA, especially since proper merge (with histories merged and old histories retained in Talk) was not done, and history is concealed to the detriment of GFDL compliance. Jerzyˇt

  • Wavetable synthesis has a good amount of information on it, but I'm having a hard time reformatting it because I'm not sure what the synth community actually considers it to be. It's muddy, fanboyish, and contains a link to a paper that describes a particular implementation of the technology as being the only valid one; not only that, the paper's author (User:Rbj) has shown up and made comments in the history about how "wavetable" is misapplied to pretty much anything but that particular implementation, whichmakes me wonder if the page has POV problems. I'd go in and clean it up myself, but between an incomplete understanding of the topic and not wanting to start an edit war, I'd rather someone else look at it first. (By the way, feel free to move this to Pages needing attention, since I couldn't decide what category to put it in there.) -lee 21:42, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Hebbal—a barely formatted article created by an anon. If the subject is notable, the article should be expanded, wikified, and structured. If non-notable, it should be listed on VfD.—Ëzhiki (erinaceus amurensis) 22:30, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)

  • Musicology of Yemen should be merged into Music of Yemen, with all links changed to the latter. Musicology is the study of music, but the topic of both (partially redundant) articles is not the study, it is the music, so the latter is the right name. --Improv 15:19, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Olive -- needs a TOC, better organization, and needs archaic 1911 language removed. ("At what remote period of human progress the wild olive passed under the care of the husbandman and became the fruitful garden olive it is impossible to conjecture.") Adam Conover 08:22, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)
    • I tried a re-write on the enjoyably archaic "History of the Olive" section but it is entirely speculative and already covered by the preceeding paras (e.g. geographical origins already indentified in the first para). So I expanded the intial section slightly and removed the "remote period of human progress.." etc. Still needs something about C20 production. frankh 22:56, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Psychology of religion - This article strikes me as very odd and I have a strange feeling about it. The style is very different from other Biocrawler articles; it seems a bit like an essay. --Munchkinguy 21:41, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Secondary_sex_characteristic - Article is poorly formatted, has headers with no content, and doesn't explain confusing terminology. I don't have the biological knowledge or resources required to clean up this article, unfortunately. Rincebrain 13 Jun 2005
  • Underwater megalithic structures off US coast - Article originally stated that there were such structures, but I rewrote it, giving the reason why they are only apparent. Is there an article for megalithic structures or apparent megalithic structures to which its content might be moved? Is there an appropriate "See also"? Is there a better title? — Joe Kress 06:50, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Alleged inconsistencies in Star Wars - I'm not sure that this is much of an article, more the transcript of an argument between Star Wars fans and critics regarding what is inconsistent and what is not. There are some inconsistencies, but many so-called "inconsistencies" are pure speculation, and the few genuine issues (Obi-Wan forgetting R2 for example) have some pretty ludicrous answers. I'll try my best to deal with some of this, but it's a lot of work.

Pseudo-homosexuality gets about 800 hits, so presumably the term means something; but this article does not seem to give the reader much of a clue as to what that might be. • Length of an arc. This article needs a lot of work. The formulas need to be checked, some of them are incomplete. There is lots more information to be added.
  • Industrial Revolution. This article needs work. There are sections which are well-written and documented, and other sections which are blank or under-written and under-documented. The relationships between the first, second (and perhaps third) Industrial Revolutions are not made clear nor easy to understand; the Talk page is equally confused and could use streamlining. Given the ongoing importance and the relevance of the subject to daily life, including the net and Biocrawler, this is a signifigant article which IMO should be strengthened to feature article status. Right now, it's a source of confusion and uncertainty to any new reader unfamiliar with the subject. Cheers, Madmagic 09:48, May 31, 2005 (UTC)

  • Diffuse knapweed - seems to have been adapted from a school essay; needs wikification, copy editing, pictures. Quercus 20:04, 16 May 2005 (UTC)
  • The Best Page in the Universe - dial back from fancruft to encyclopedic coverage. --Jerzy~Jerzy - one user has removed the cleanup notice, made a bunch of changes, asked me what i thot, made more changes, all w/o discussing here. I've given this ten times the effort i intended, and my interest is too slight to read it again to see the effect of F'rG's latest. Anyone else? --Jerzyˇt
  • Arańa is once again becoming a complete mess. The plot synopsis is bloated and convoluted, there's loads of HTML code in there, and atrocious spelling and grammar. --Pc13 09:58, 2005 May 16 (UTC)

The lists of encyclopedia topics could do with renumbering.

Why had all the entries from 8 May to present "vanished"?

  • Lara Roxx - needs references which document that she got HIV from Darren James, or leaves us open to a lawsuit. RickK 21:18, May 15, 2005 (UTC)
  • FairTax - needs significant work on NPOV and in some cases spelling as well. Pakaran 02:18, 16 May 2005 (UTC)
    • I've taken a first pass at this one. Have a look.--Unfocused 03:23, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
      • This article has been attacked by POV pushers in favor of it. It requires far more attention than I can give it. --Unfocused 06:20, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Words hardest to translate - I fixed the grammar up a little bit and tried to organize the page, but it seems to be about two different things. First, it talks about a list of words named "Words hardest to translate," by a British company. Then later, it leaves that topic to talk about specific difficulties in translation and also a small note about certain that are easy to translate. Maybe it should be divided into two articles, one about the list and another about problems in translation. FuzzyOnion 22:49, May 15, 2005 (UTC)
  • Infantilism - Horrible article with way too many sections, some of which are useless, and section 'A list of known abusers on the net' is definitely not encyclopedia material. Biocrawler is not a campaign ground regardless of issue. - Mithent 15:34, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
  • So the list is a bit out of line, but the complexity of ABDL and Infantilism is extensive. We have cleaned it up before and deleted certain sections. But if you have not read the whole article, you can not say it is a horrible article. And which sections would be useless may I ask? Read the whole article and then we can debate what needs to be cleaned up, but I doubt you know very much about ABDL yourself. --OrbitOne 16:02, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
We have removed the suggested section regarding known abusers as per your suggestion, as well as many of the sections that we believed might not be necessary. Your input is appreciated. If there are any other specific suggestions you might have, they would be appreciated. Meanwhile we have removed the Cleanup notice. Thanks for your interest and advice on this article.
Scott P. 16:22, May 15, 2005 (UTC)
Well, generally I was referring to the organisation in the article - it's informative, certainly, but it has a huge number of sections, some of which are extremely short. Most are only one paragraph long, and I feel that merging such things as 'Loss of Power' elsewhere would be a good idea. There's some description of splitting the article on the Talk page, and I think that might also be a good idea. I don't really know about ABDL, no. I'll be quiet about this now and leave it to your own editing. -- Mithent 16:29, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

Thankyou for your understanding. We will try to clean up sections, but I have plans about expanding loss of power. I might make it into an article of its own in relation to sexual slavery fantasy. --OrbitOne 16:38, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

  • Dancing Eagle - looks like a candidate for deletion even.. meh. Yorick, Jester of Elsinore 11:53, 2005 May 12 (UTC)
    • we ought to create a Segal, Daniel Scott article and redirect Dancing Eagle to that --Drolldurham
  • History of the Balkans - was COTW, enormous amounts of text were added but some sections are still blank, and what is already there could probably use colloborative editing. --Tothebarricades.tk 19:37, May 11, 2005 (UTC)
  • Shrivel - combination stub/disambiguation/extended dictdef. page that also needs wikification. --Dcfleck 00:24, 2005 May 12 (UTC)
Parts of this were so badly written they may have been a joke (DiHyrdogen oxide...instead of saying water?). I threw away a lot of junk. Now it may need some expansion. RJFJR 01:43, May 12, 2005 (UTC)

  • Soulcake - chunk of text written in the first person followed by another (unwikified) chunk of text cut and pasted from [2] (http://www.takeourword.com/Issue020.html). (It's credited, but may still be a copyright issue.)

I've merged this with Sequence point, clarified and prettied it up a bit, but may need further work. Stoive 23:03, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
  • RPGFan. Needs a lot of expansion. RPGFan has a rather lengthy and interesting history as far as RPG websites go. I'd do it myself, but I don't think I could provide a NPOV. --Kweee 16:58, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
My suggestion is to try your best with it. NPOV can be worked on by anyone, but substantially fewer can add any information. --Tothebarricades.tk 01:12, May 10, 2005 (UTC)
  • Ombra mai fů - I almost marked this as patent nonsense, but it turns out this sloppy mess is an opera by Georg Friedrich Handel. Someone with the time and inclination to fix it up, please? DS 20:00, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
    • Actually, it's not a Handel opera itself; it's an aria from Handel's opera Serse which makes it less encyclopedic than it would be if it were an opera itself. Also, the plot as described in this entry does not match the plot listed at Serse. --Metropolitan90 22:30, May 10, 2005 (UTC)

  • Barbamon - it's a Digimon. I bet a VfD on it wouldn't succeed, because we have so much of this junk, but something needs to be done with this badly-written stub. RSpeer 06:51, May 8, 2005 (UTC)

  • Religious violence could use some attention. I've attempted to NPOV it by removing the small subset of specific examples and writing a proper introduction, but I feel that ultimately this article will need specific examples to achieve it's purpose as well. Please see Talk:Religious violence for more on this topic. Any attention paid to this article would be appreciated. -SocratesJedi | Talk 01:28, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

  • Archos needs a lot of serious editing. Bad grammar, confusing sentence fragments, and little if any information on the company (the article focuses more on the products vice the company itself). --Mitsukai 05:06, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
    • I've done some formatting and revision to help with the points of confusion; expansion points are outlined on the Talk page here so feel free to point out a few ideas. --Orethrius van Degaurde 05:56, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

  • Joseon Dynasty needs serious editing. Bad grammar, inaccurate information, and irrelevant information. --thevizier 21:26, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
    • I've taken a whack at several of the sections. I haven't stepped into any accuracy stuff, and several sections remained, but I did a good deal of revising. I moved comments on the article to the talk page, by the way, which is where they're more appropriate. Demi T/C 00:10, 2005 May 6 (UTC)

Is anyone familiar with this stuff? It could probably use some NPOVing, too. -- Captain Disdain 16:28, 2 May 2005 (UTC)
  • Rasht - needs copyediting to improve the flow of English. Also has a section on a village whose relationship to the main subject is very unclear. --Dcfleck 01:02, 2005 May 3 (UTC)

  • Pax Britannica to Pax Americana Definitely needs to be looked at. Not sure if it's a VfD candidate, but it's certainly POV, possibly original research/copyvio, and definitely needs to be moved to a more general article about Britain, the US, or the world in general. saturnight 23:47, Apr 30, 2005 (UTC)
