Comden and Green

Comden and Green was the writing duo of Betty Comden and Adolph Green. They wrote lyrics and books for musical stage plays, and lyrics and screenplays for movies. They worked with several musical collaborators, including Jule Styne and Leonard Bernstein.

Comden and Green's hits include the Broadway musicals On the Town and Wonderful Town, each of which was a celebration of New York City and which were adapted into movie musicals as well, and On the Twentieth Century and Bells Are Ringing. They also worked on the musical films Singin' in the Rain (most of whose songs were from other MGM musicals) and The Band Wagon. For television, they wrote the songs to the famous version of Peter Pan which starred Mary Martin in the title role.

Green died on October 24, 2002.
