Are

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

For the municipality in Sweden, see Åre; for the boroughtown and rural municipality in Estonia see Are; for the language from Papua New Guinea see Are

An are /ɛə/ or /eɹ/ (symbol a) is a unit of surface area, equivalent to 100 square metres. The are is most familiar through its derived unit, the hectare. Neither the are nor the hectare are SI units, although they are both accepted for use with SI units.

1 are = 1 square decametre
1 are = 100 square metres
100 are = 1 hectare = 10,000 square metres

One are equals 1076.3910 square feet. One hectare is roughly 2.47 acres.
