Application

Application has the following meanings:

  • In general, an application is using something abstract for a more concrete use. For example: applied science.
  • In business, an application is the usual initial form and process used in attaining employment with a firm or organization.
  • In computing, application refers to a software application. Application software (also called end-user programs) includes database programs, word processors and spreadsheets. Figuratively speaking, application software sits on top of systems software because it is unable to run without the operating system and system utilities.
