Antioch is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 90,532.

Antioch is located at 37°59'33" North, 121°48'8" West (37.992421, -121.802225)1. It is located along the Sacramento River at the western end of the Sacramento River Delta.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 71.4 km² (27.6 mi²). 69.8 km² (27.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.28% water.

At present, it is mainly a "bedroom" community, with most adults working in larger cities toward San Francisco and San Jose. The town has seen an enormous amount of growth in the last 30 years, as the population of the Bay Area continues to grow, and real estate prices force families to move towards the outskirts of the Bay Area. There is a gravity hill located in Antioch.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 90,532 people, 29,338 households, and 23,177 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,297.0/km² (3,359.5/mi²). There are 30,116 housing units at an average density of 431.5/km² (1,117.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 65.33% White, 9.75% Black or African American, 0.93% Native American, 7.40% Asian, 0.40% Pacific Islander, 9.23% from other races, and 6.97% from two or more races. 22.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 29,338 households out of which 46.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.3% are married couples living together, 13.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.0% are non-families. 15.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.07 and the average family size is 3.42.

In the city the population is spread out with 32.3% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 96.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $60,359, and the median income for a family is $64,723. Males have a median income of $50,152 versus $34,203 for females. The per capita income for the city is $22,152. 8.5% of the population and 6.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.3% of those under the age of 18 and 6.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
