Airdrie, Scotland

Airdrie is a town located in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, founded in 1150. It adjoins directly onto the neighbouring town of Coatbridge to the west, and lies approximately 12 miles to the east of Glasgow, and is the last major town in the Greater Glasgow metropolitan area on the eastern route towards Edinburgh.

The town is linked to Glasgow and Edinburgh via the A89 and A8 roads, and is the eastern terminus of the North Clyde suburban railway.

Airdrie is the birthplace of actor Ian Bannen, and was the parliamentary constituency of Labour Party leader John Smith until his death in 1994.

The Airdrie Savings Bank has its head office in Airdrie.
